03/14/07: DS games for men

M: Yeah, well... There are not that many "manly" games on DS, in my opinion. "Manly" meaning games I can play without being snickered at. Just
looking at sales charts tells me there's a suspicious amount of Kim Possible titles in the top twenty. And don't even get me started about animal
care games. It's like nothing has changed over the last thirty years: Boys want to be astronauts, girls want to become vets when they grow up. *sigh*

Now, I do know there are some good, maybe even great games out on the DS, but they're just not my cup of tea. I've always admired Mario players,
but I never aspired to be one of them. 3D Metroid with a stylus? No, thanks. Animal Crossing? Please... Then there's all those brain training games,
which - in my (not so humble) opinion - don't even qualify as games. Entertaining? Sure, but so's reading a newspaper.

I think what irks me the most is this constant marketing aspect. It's so cool to hate Sony and own all Nintendo products nowadays. It's like all iPod
owners have been brainwashed into buying any and all white plastic electronics available. Why does the DS lite have to be white anyway? The black
version looks so much better with its bright screens next to a dark background, but apparently, Nintendo pushes the white one. At least, the black
DS lite costs up to 20 Euros more at retail, effectively killing all customer interest. Or maybe it has sold out? Hard to believe that. White is the new
black. Go figure.
